Outlook add-in
What is an Outlook add-in?
An Outlook add-in is a small application that adds features to Outlook, appearing in the toolbar or in an open meeting invite. For workplace tools, add-ins let people book rooms, order catering and register visitors in the same invite they already use, instead of switching to another system.
Why add-ins matter
Every meeting starts as an Outlook invite. When the room, the catering and the guest list are added to that same invite, they belong to the meeting and follow it when it changes. When they live in separate tools, someone has to keep them in sync by hand.
What to check
- Does the add-in work in the new Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac and Outlook on the web?
- Is the booking stored in Microsoft Exchange or in a separate database?
- Can IT deploy it centrally through Microsoft 365?
How AskCody handles Outlook add-ins
AskCody has three add-ins for Outlook: Bookings for rooms, desks and workspaces, Services for catering, room setups and AV, and Visitors for pre-registering guests. Every booking lives in Microsoft Exchange, and when the meeting moves, the room, the order and the guest list move with it. See add-ins for Outlook.
Frequently asked questions
Do Outlook add-ins work in Microsoft Teams meetings?
Teams meetings are Outlook and Exchange meetings, so add-ins used in the Outlook invite apply to them too.
Do people need to install the add-in themselves?
Usually not. IT can deploy add-ins centrally to users through Microsoft 365.
