Space programming

What is space programming?

Space programming is the early step in an office move or redesign that defines which spaces are needed, how many of each and how big they should be. The result, often called a space program, lists desks, meeting rooms, focus spaces and support areas before any floor plan is drawn.

How space programming works

  • Interview teams about how they work
  • Review headcount and growth plans
  • Analyze how current rooms and desks are used
  • Translate the findings into a list of spaces and sizes

Why data matters

Space programs based only on interviews tend to ask for more large rooms than are needed. Data on meeting sizes and room utilization shows, for example, whether most meetings have two to four people and need small rooms instead.

How AskCody supports space programming

AskCody workplace analytics reports time and capacity utilization for rooms and desks, including how many attendees use rooms compared with their capacity, as input to the space program.
