Upcoming Change: Transition from EWS to Microsoft Graph for Exchange Online
Microsoft has announced the retirement of Exchange Web Services (EWS) for Exchange Online. You can read Microsoft’s official announcement here.
AskCody currently uses EWS for parts of our Exchange Online integration. To ensure continued compatibility and stability, we are upgrading our platform to use Microsoft Graph instead.
What this means for you
We are actively working on updating our Exchange Online integration to fully support Microsoft Graph.
Once this upgrade is ready, customers using Exchange Online will need to update their connection to ensure uninterrupted service. The process will require action from your Microsoft 365 administrator.
There is no action required at this time.
Permissions for the Microsoft Graph integration
For the IT and information security teams who want to review ahead of the change, here is what the move to Microsoft Graph means for the permissions AskCody uses.
The permission set does not change with this migration. The Graph integration uses the same Microsoft permissions AskCody already documents and uses today. Organizations running Central or Maps have already granted these permissions, so there is nothing new to review or approve. Organizations not yet using Central or Maps will grant the same set as part of the upgrade.
The full permission list, the purpose of each permission, and the AskCody applications that use it are maintained in the Help Center article Permissions used and required connecting AskCody with MS Graph and Entra ID, which is the single source of truth for a security review.
What happens next
We will share more details as soon as the upgrade is available, including:
- Clear timelines
- Step-by-step instructions
- Guidance on what your organization needs to do
Our goal is to make the transition smooth and predictable, and we will provide sufficient notice before any action is required.
If you have any questions in the meantime, our support team is ready to assist.
We will keep you informed.
